I’ve had this book on my shelf for a while, and to be honest, for its Christmastime setting, I was keeping it for warmer weather, to remind me of days when I could wear more layers than my skin. However, I couldn’t wait any longer, and squeezed it right in.
Katy Regnery’s debut novel, By Proxy, tells the story of two people who stand in as proxies for their loved ones in order for them to get married. Jenny comes in for her best friend Ingrid, and Sam, for his cousin Kristian. And while they do their good deed for Ingrid and Kristian, they realize they might just have found what they didn’t even know they were looking for. Well, at least it was the case for Sam. He’s a city boy through and through- even though we didn’t get to see that part of him for a big chunk of the book. Parties and one night stands in the big city, he wants to get it over with and go back home. Jenny, on the other hand, is a classic small town girl. She’s extremely shy, loving and giving to the point of ignoring her own wishes.
They both had their faults in dealing with their unexpected budding romance, I’ll give you that, but in the end they were able to realize those mistakes and compromise.
