HodgepodgeReview

Alright, I’m going to be completely straightforward and tell you that it’s been close to a lifetime while I’ve been trying to write this review. Why? Not because I didn’t like the book because I loved it. Not because I couldn’t find anything to say about it because damn, my mind’s been filled with things I wanted to say even while still reading the book. The only other option left was that I’m stuck with my words. Still with me on the blog? Thank you, lovelies. So I’ve decided to pull on my big girl panties and sit down after a nice meal and a cup of tea and write this review down.

The last time I’ve seen Adam, he was the new reaper in town and still hadn’t come to terms with his situation, you know, the fact that he was dead and expected to reap souls and all that. Until we’ve come to Adam we’ve gone through some time, so the Adam we meet in this book was the more mature version of the once-rookie. Being a cop in his mortal life, the circumstances under which he meets Marlena compel him to help her. Not only that, but he also feels a strange pull toward her, one that he can’t help but ignore.

It’s not often I wish I could give a book a rating higher than the highest. While, and after reading this book though, I really really wished I could.
Grave Destinations takes us back to the world of reapers, and this time we’re with Ruby, the flirty no-strings-attached redhead, and the man of mystery Jack Deverell.

When I read a book, I usually take notes on the side of the things I either liked or disliked about it. It helps me remember all that I want to say about the book, but in this case I couldn’t bring myself to leave the story long enough to scribble a few words aside. I absolutely loved Ruby and Jack’s story. It was full of mystery and action and sexy romance that had me curse my current single state.

Who doesn’t think that death is an interesting subject? Especially in today’s fascination with vampires, shapeshifters, demons and all the other undead or long living creatures, it’s hard to think of death solely in the context of sadness. Nope, death makes an interesting life choice these days, presenting fantasies of eternal life. So it’s no wonder when I came across this series that deals with reapers who collect souls for Fate, I was very very intrigued.

This time we’re not talking about creatures who are either born or turned into immortals against their wills, but humans who are given a second chance at righting their wrongs in the form of becoming reapers. One such human is David, a long time dead soldier, and when I say long time, I mean about sixty or so years, who’s balancing his undead life between reaping souls, dividing up schedules for his subordinate reapers and training his current newbie into the death business. He’s quite a busy man, but things get busier when Sarah enters the picture, the human woman who very unexpectedly and surprisingly turns his routine upside down and dodges all his attempts at Jedi mind tricks.
