For vet and animal whisperer Charli Avers, talking to bears is all in a day’s work. But when she finds a man—a very sexy, very alpha man—where a bear ought to be, the wild comes close to home. Charli is drawn to this mysterious stranger. She wants to help him piece together the past he can’t remember—even if that means shedding her human misgivings and embracing her more carnal desires.

After shifting from bear to man, Barry believes he’s finally found his mate. Now he just needs to find himself. He doesn’t know much about the animal within him, but his human heart aches for Charli. She ignites his instincts to protect her from all danger—including their electric attraction.

The stakes climb as Charli investigates the mystery behind Barry’s memory loss and how it may relate to strange sightings and thefts in this little corner of Oregon. Without answers, she may lose Barry—and herself—to the wild side forever.

Being the first book I’ve ever read by Milly Taiden, and the first paranormal romance in quite a while, I wasn’t impressed with BEARLY IN CONTROL. With its pretty cover and promising plot, this book would’ve been better if it was longer so the whole story, character developments and the breadcrumbs that were left for the upcoming books could’ve spread out more evenly. The way it was, everything felt very rushed. The meeting of the hero and heroine was rushed, their falling for each other was rushed-even considered by pnr standards- the action, the introduction of the rest of the characters were all rushed.

HodgepodgeReview

Alright, I’m going to be completely straightforward and tell you that it’s been close to a lifetime while I’ve been trying to write this review. Why? Not because I didn’t like the book because I loved it. Not because I couldn’t find anything to say about it because damn, my mind’s been filled with things I wanted to say even while still reading the book. The only other option left was that I’m stuck with my words. Still with me on the blog? Thank you, lovelies. So I’ve decided to pull on my big girl panties and sit down after a nice meal and a cup of tea and write this review down.

The last time I’ve seen Adam, he was the new reaper in town and still hadn’t come to terms with his situation, you know, the fact that he was dead and expected to reap souls and all that. Until we’ve come to Adam we’ve gone through some time, so the Adam we meet in this book was the more mature version of the once-rookie. Being a cop in his mortal life, the circumstances under which he meets Marlena compel him to help her. Not only that, but he also feels a strange pull toward her, one that he can’t help but ignore.

HodgepodgeReview

Oh, how much I missed the Midnight Breed series..I couldn’t tell you what a pleasure it was to be back in this world.
It’s been a while since I last read a book from this series, and I have to admit, I might’ve neglected to read them-only a little, I swear!- but to pick it up and start where I left off was just the kind of reading break I needed. It’s always nice to discover new authors, delve into new worlds and experience new things, but there is nothing like falling into that comfortable bubble with just you and one of your favorite authors.

Those who’re familiar with this series will need no introductions simply because I’m sure they’ve read this already, but those who don’t know, please pick it up if you like vampiric paranormal romance. I know they’ve been told about in a million different ways these blood sucking creatures, but Lara Adrian’s interpretation is definitely one of my favorites of the genre. She takes the term vampire and puts a new spin to it, adding all kinds of plotlines and history, and then mixes them up with yet another myth. She spins a tale that’s quite enjoyable and sexy. The best part though, and this is lacking in so many examples of the same genre, is the heroines. They’re not just ornaments for the reading pleasure of sexy times, but they’re an integral part of the story. They have their own storylines, their own strength and weaknesses. Simply put, they have their own voices in these books. I know the series is called the MIDNIGHT BREED, and the name Breed is the one given to the males of the species, but these are as much the heroines’ stories as the heroes. Not one character is tossed aside, and this is what I love about the MIDNIGHT BREED.

HodgepodgeReview

Another book in a favorite series finished in the blink of an eye. I feel like one minute I was anxiously settling in with a hot drink and getting comfy, and the next, the book was over! How, pray tell, am I expected to wait so long until the next book?

Fae are probably the least known creatures by yours truly. I was first introduced to them in yet another favorite series, and after that, this one happened. I’m not complaining though. I’m happy to be learning different aspects of the Good Neighbors in different stories, from different authors, and honestly? I enjoy them all immensely.

Never disappointing with this series, especially in the last few books, are the heroes and the heroines. Fae, although believed to be cruel and deadly-with good reason-, turn out to have conscience and hearts after all. And the women they rightfully fall for are the epitome of strong and confident female characters.

Francesca Bellafiore is a good Jewish girl, living up to family expectations that she use her magic to heal others. Underneath, she’s a wannabe badass with her heart set on becoming a detective and solving magical crimes. But nice girls don’t disappoint their moms.

Party boy Rafael Muñoz does everything possible to publicly disappoint his high profile father. Privately, it’s a different story. His carefully crafted bad boy reputation masks the fact he’s a master illusionist, forced into solo covert ops. The role is wearing thin and Rafael longs to be part of a team.

When Francesca meets Rafael at a friend’s party, she’s taken by the sexy stranger. Until he speaks. Beautiful plumage doesn’t compensate for spectacular ego. Rafael finds Francesca’s sweetness a turn-on. For about five minutes. Judgmental golden girls are more trouble than they’re worth. Then a terrified girl with reality warping powers, locked and loaded on their destruction, whisks the pair to Manhattan. Francesca and Rafael are caught in a web of magic, minions, secrets, and enough sexual tension to power NYC. Desperate to prove themselves, their only chance to save the city and survive is to team up, trust each other–and maybe even fall in love.

Provided they don’t kill each other first.

HodgepodgeReview

At the risk of sounding shallow-but really, what are covers, if not reader magnets?- I solemnly swear that I picked up this book based first and foremost on its awesome cover. Just looking at it made me quite the happy gal. That coloring, that pose with the cover models, that potential bad girl making an appearance from behind the good girl façade of the heroine, and the ever so trouble bad boy of course. All was in that gorgeous cover and after skimming through the plot, I was a goner.

I gotta say I’m still a baby when it comes to New Adult. I can be confused with the classification, but what the book wanted to tell was loud and clear. Although I can’t say that I’m a big fan of the genre, I truly believe that I can enjoy a good book no matter what it’s about. And did I find this world of humans with magical abilities interesting? Oh yeah.
