Carys Chase is accustomed to making her own rules and letting her heart lead the way–no matter what anyone else has to say about it. A rare Breed female and a daywalker as well, headstrong, beautiful Carys is one of the most powerful of her kind. She lives passionately and loves without limits, especially when it comes to the lethal cage-fighting Breed warrior called Rune.

Unbeatable in the ring, Rune exists in a brutal world of blood and bone and death. He’s made his share of enemies both in and out of the arena, and his secrets run as deep and turbulent as his past. A dangerous loner who has survived by his fists and fangs, Rune has never allowed anyone to get too close to him…until Carys. But when the bodies buried in his past rise up to threaten his present, Rune must choose between betraying Carys’s trust or putting her in the crosshairs of a battle neither of them can hope to win on their own.

Oh, how much I missed the Midnight Breed series..I couldn’t tell you what a pleasure it was to be back in this world.
It’s been a while since I last read a book from this series, and I have to admit, I might’ve neglected to read them-only a little, I swear!- but to pick it up and start where I left off was just the kind of reading break I needed. It’s always nice to discover new authors, delve into new worlds and experience new things, but there is nothing like falling into that comfortable bubble with just you and one of your favorite authors.

Those who’re familiar with this series will need no introductions simply because I’m sure they’ve read this already, but those who don’t know, please pick it up if you like vampiric paranormal romance. I know they’ve been told about in a million different ways these blood sucking creatures, but Lara Adrian’s interpretation is definitely one of my favorites of the genre. She takes the term vampire and puts a new spin to it, adding all kinds of plotlines and history, and then mixes them up with yet another myth. She spins a tale that’s quite enjoyable and sexy. The best part though, and this is lacking in so many examples of the same genre, is the heroines. They’re not just ornaments for the reading pleasure of sexy times, but they’re an integral part of the story. They have their own storylines, their own strength and weaknesses. Simply put, they have their own voices in these books. I know the series is called the MIDNIGHT BREED, and the name Breed is the one given to the males of the species, but these are as much the heroines’ stories as the heroes. Not one character is tossed aside, and this is what I love about the MIDNIGHT BREED.

Born and raised to be an emotionless killing machine, Nathan is one of the most lethal Breed vampires in existence. A key member of the Order—an elite group of warriors charged with protecting both mortals and vampires—Nathan executes each mission with flawless precision and a total lack of mercy. Now he must pursue a powerful, hidden enemy. But Nathan’s hard discipline and training are no match for the fierce pull he feels toward a young woman he has no right to desire—a woman of wealth and high social standing who has long been promised to another Breed male, and who may also prove to be the key to rooting out Nathan’s elusive quarry.

Jordana lives a life of glittering privilege as a member of a prominent Breed family in Boston. Surrounded by fine things and fawning admirers, Jordana wants for nothing—until she crosses paths with a dark, intense warrior from the Order and finds herself swept into an impulsive, sizzling kiss that neither of them will forget. As much as she tries to deny her deep feelings for Nathan, Jordana cannot resist the craving to be near him, to break through his forbidding walls and see the man he truly is. But getting close to Nathan will thrust Jordana into a treacherous new world, forcing her to risk all she has and all she knows about herself and her past. And loving this seductive man could be the most dangerous temptation of all.

I’ll have you know, this book did serious damage to my sleep cycle. I was forced to live half a life of a vampire and half of regular homo sapiens, and full insomnia.
As per usual when trying to write a review for a book I so enjoyed, this is going to be a struggle for sure, considering I’ve been waiting to read it for a long long while.

I made a wise choice before starting this and went back a while, mostly to remind me of the new characters that joined the ranks of the Order after the twenty year time leap into the future in the previous book. So far, these men and women had to fight other Breed members and then their otherworldly fathers, and now, with enough time having passed for new threats to form and flourish, they face, yet again, a potential war with an enemy that can very well cause the end of their world and peace.

I don’t know if you’ve read the previous books of this series-if you haven’t, I highly recommend that you do, for this series was an obsessively pleasant and sexy read- but if you have, then you’re well aware that the human women who can bear Breed children and live a long life with their mates had their own genetic secrets that were slowly being revealed. Now this plot is thickening and many more mysteries and action await us from the looks of it.Read More »

Book ~ Edge of Dawn by Lara Adrian

EdgeOfDawnBook: Edge Of Dawn

Series: Midnight Breed #11

Format: Hardback

The new book of the Midnight Breed series was one I’ve been waiting a long time. Not only because of the surprising forward time jump of twenty years, but also because it was to feature the two kids -not so much kids anymore, of course- who I hoped would end up sometime in the future. And my excitement was high, because what I hoped would be an epilogue at the end of the series perhaps, turned out to be a whole book that introduced a new path and storyline.

I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who thought the young children Mira and Kellan would one day make a right couple. Lara Adrian seemed to think so. And she gave us their book with a whole new set of threats and bad guys, new potentials for future books, and a brand new story that derived from the one we loved of The Order.
