A single mom and tortured musician find common ground in Scarlett Cole’s Elliott Redeemed, the second standalone romance about the band Preload.
Elliott “Pyro” Dawson burns up the lead guitar like a legend. But the nickname Pyro isn’t just a clever play on words. It’s much darker. A past he’s fought like hell to overcome.
Grocery store cashier Kendalee Walker is at her wits end and homeless. She’s watched her fourteen-year-old son, Daniel, go so far off the rails, he can no longer see the tracks.
When the two are brought together, attraction flares, but the life of a badass rockstar couldn’t be more different than that of a struggling mom. Can Elliott find the family he never had with the sexy woman and her son, or will he fall back on dangerous habits?
I forgot how much I missed the members of the music band Preload. The second book brings us Elliott, the one who plays with fire. Literally. Now, please don’t take it like I’m taking this matter lightly, because I’m not. In fact, one of the main reasons why I love this series so much is that it takes these real life problems so seriously. And then Scarlett Cole not only helps her characters heal, but also shows us that there can always be happiness, hope and healing at the end of such a dark tunnel.
If I have to be completely honest, at the beginning, I thought I may not have the strong bond I’d expect with the heroine, Kendalee, don’t even know why. But with a son who was abused by a family member and then used fire to give voice to his frustrations, she was-along with said son with his own personal demons that are so similar to Elliott’s- perhaps the ideal heroine for Elliott. I quickly came to realize how strong Kendalee was, how difficult it was what she was dealing with. I can’t even begin to imagine what she must’ve been through, with the knowledge of what happened to her son, to see him in so much pain and not being able to do anything to ease it. I felt for her. So much. I think, as much as Elliott was the one who gave his name to the book and had to deal with his problems, she was also a force to be reckoned with.
If you know this series, you know it is an emotional roller coaster because these guys have been through so much, being in the foster system for various reasons. And perhaps each is more terrifying than the other. My heart both breaks and swells while reading these books. I can’t even begin to tell you what an incredible journey it is to read these men’s stories-and the women’s no doubt- and be genuinely happy to watch them find their worth.
I can’t recommend this series enough. If you like emotional romances about strong people with big hearts, then these books are for you.
I’m adding four spoonfuls of this story into my hodgepodge.
