Alec Grayson returns home to Falcon, Alabama, to rebuild his life after a knee injury ended his NFL career. As the Falcon high school quarterback coach, Alec’s love for the game is reignited. Meanwhile, he puts his hard-partying past and the betrayal of the people he trusted most behind him, and adopts a hard demeanor. That is, until a spitfire artist with soulful eyes and a body that haunts his dreams gets under his skin and threatens to crack his armor.
Lilliana Hancock is forced to leave her struggling-artist lifestyle in New York and return to Falcon after her father’s unexpected death leaves her a decrepit family mansion. Determined to use her skills to turn the home into a successful bed and breakfast, Lilliana is stopped at every turn by the town contractor, who happens to be Alec, the gorgeous and arrogant jock to whom she lost her virginity in college. Except Alec doesn’t remember, which infuriates her. Too bad she can’t forget the way his body felt against hers or how his heated gaze follows her…
Will they be able to put their pasts behind them for a future together?
Another fun addition to the Falcon Football series, MELTING INTO YOU was a small town story of new beginnings that delivered what it aimed for. The hero, just like in the previous books, was not actively involved with the sport himself, but a coach who was good at his job but maybe not so good at relationships. And the heroine was a free spirited artist so you can imagine the kind of sparks these two would produce.
I like a story of opposites attract, so in that regard I think this one was spot on. While Lilliana was outgoing and welcoming, Alec was a closed box of emotions. We already met them in previous books and knew they were going to get together, but the way they eyed each other so hungrily and yet denied any attraction was the kind of romance right up my alley. To Lilliana’s happy go lucky character, Alec responded with a stoic manner.
Though their affair started right at the beginning, there were still a few issues they needed to tackle which made up the story. I enjoyed reading about Alec and Lilliana’s passion, their shared worry over a troubled teenager, their insecurities, and though at times I thought it might’ve been a tad too slow, I still looked forward to them getting to that happily ever after.
This was a sweet small town romance, just what the doctor would order on a dull cold day to enjoy over a nice cup of tea. Things may not have been too deep, details might’ve been needed to make this read more complete, but it still was an enjoyable one.
I’m adding three spoonfuls of this story into my hodgepodge and hope everyone in Falcon, Alabama are doing okay. We got some good news from previous couples, and personally, I’m not jealous. Nuh-uh.
