The hunt for mass murderer Cara Lindstrom is over. FBI Special Agent Matthew Roarke has been working for this moment: the capture of a killer who savagely hunts the worst of humanity. But Roarke remains traumatized by his own near-death at the hands of the serial killer who slaughtered Cara’s family…and haunted by the enigmatic woman who saved his life.

Then the sixteen-year-old prostitute who witnessed Cara’s most recent murder goes missing, and suddenly pimps are turning up dead on the streets of San Francisco, killed with an MO eerily similar to Cara’s handiwork.

Is a new killer on the loose with a mission even more deadly than hers? In the pulse-pounding third Huntress/FBI Thrillers book, Roarke will have to go on the hunt…and every woman he meets, even those closest to him, may prove deadly.

I have to make a confession. It’s actually been a long while since I finished this book, but I was so overwhelmed by emotions regarding its subject matter that I couldn’t bring myself to write down anything. So I sat on it, and slept on it and even more so, thought on it. What could I possibly write down about this book, hell, about this series, that could make it reach more people because, people, more of you need to read them.

I’ve already spoken about how good they are- and yes, I’m talking about all the three books so far- when it comes to plotting and characterization, but I have a great respect for the author for putting this issue out there and making it in such a way that could appeal to almost anyone. For those of you who don’t know how it all started, the idea began with a female serial killer with a specific victim pool. I wish I could say more, but that’d be giving things away and I couldn’t do that to you.

All I can say is that the books are told from both the points of view of this woman and the FBI agent who’s trying to catch her, and all is mesmerizing. Brilliantly written characters and a web of a plotline is the key here. Everything starts off as one might expect, but then it grows and grows and voila! We’re at this point, in the third book and all has become even bigger and better. And probably more real and brutal-as reality always is.

I cannot recommend this series enough. If you like a good chase, if you like a really good thriller that’s going to make you think and feel, if you want characters who are constantly going to challenge you about your own idea of morality and justice, and hell, if you even want a whiff of romance to make you feel complete, then read this series. Start from the beginning, cancel your non urgent appointments and delve in. By the end of it, I’m sure you’ll be left with a whole lot of emotions-and let’s face it, most of them will not be kittens and rainbows- but you will still enjoy this.

I’m glad for the day I picked up The Harrowing by Alexandra Sokoloff, which then led me to this series, and I thank her for the experience.

I’m adding five huge spoonfuls of this story into my hodgepodge.

  1. Lady Muslin, it’s always the most rewarding thing to find a reader/reviewer experiencing the books exactly as I always hoped people would. Thank you for this wonderful review and for being so careful not to spoil the plot. I know it’s VERY difficult to talk about the books at all without spoilers, and you’ve done it brilliantly. Much appreciated!

    • Thank you so much, Alexandra, for taking the time to leave this comment which I can safely say, made my day. And thank you, for writing this series, its impact was profound on me, both as a reader and as a person. I sincerely hope to read more from you in the future. Take care!
