Take one infamous earl…

Noble Britton, Lord Weston, has come to London intending to revisit old friends, enjoy a modicum of society, and-oh, yes-find a mild, biddable wife.

Add an irrepressible American

Gillian Leigh’s Unfortunate Habit of speaking her mind and Shocking Susceptibility to Accidents have left her on the shelf at five-and-twenty. So why can’t Noble resist her?

And good intentions are bound to fail

When Gillian meets the infamous Black Earl, she knows that at last she’s found a man who can match her zest for life, even if that entails the occasional arson…or kidnapping. Not to mention the encounters with his former mistresses…

Although life with Gillian involves as much chaos as laughter, Noble fully intends to claim her for his own-if she doesn’t accidentally kill him first.

I really, really wanted to love this book. A historical hero seeking a new wife for himself, finds an accident prone young lady with a free spirit-unbeknownst to him, of course. See how easy it sounds to like this book? I thought so. Unfortunately, in the end, I found myself not being able to fully enjoy it.

Noble, for starters, wasn’t the kind of hero that left an impression on me, either good or bad. And that’s bad, because no matter what it is I feel, I’d rather feel something for the characters than being indifferent towards them. Even if I hate them, it’s still a reason to come back to read, but when I don’t feel anything for a character, there’s really nothing to tie me to the book. And unfortunately, Noble was such a character. I couldn’t sense his sexiness, his thoughtfulness, or his love throughout my reading, which meant that already half of the pair who should’ve attracted me failed to impress me.Read More »

Owen has been struggling with addiction since he was a teenager, but it takes a DUI involving another vehicle for him to finally face his issues. The road to recovery is a rough one, and for Owen it’s a journey made harder by bankruptcy, loneliness, and repressed memories.

His new apartment doesn’t help either. It’s small, worn, and hot as hell. The only way to reach it is a tedious stretch of stairs that seems like the final insult on top of a whole pile of misery. Thankfully, the mess comes with one bright spot: intense, pretty Sebastian, who seems to have a knack for keeping his head up and finding the beauty in everything.

From the looks of it, finding short, good reads, lately, has become a specialty of mine. Not only did the cover grabbed my attention-I have a thing for mysterious looking covers-, but the m/m theme drew me in as well.

What we have here is not an erotica, not a story revolving around the hot sex the two male leads have, but a bumpy journey towards salvation. The story is told from the point of view of Owen while he struggles through an alcohol addiction. I’ve never personally met anyone who went through what Owen was going through here, but I was glad to see I could get inside his head and relate to his thought process. Read More »

I’d do anything to keep my mother alive.

Anything, including ask Ian Kerr for help. I don’t know much about him, except that he has more money than some small countries. And he’s willing to spend it on me. Just one catch: there’s a string attached, and not just the one I feel pulling me into his arms and his bed. There’s also the plan for revenge he wants my help with.

Every time he says my name, it makes my body shiver and my heart stutter. I know he’s going to wreck me, know there won’t be anything left of me but lust and sensation by the time he’s done with me, but even though I can see the heartbreak coming towards me like a train, ready to crash into me, I can’t get out of the way. I want what he makes me feel. Want what he’s offering.

This may have started out as something to save my mother, but now…now it’s about what he makes me feel. I’m in danger of losing everything that’s important. Worse? Ian’s whispered words and hot caresses are making me believe that’s okay.

This book surprised me. What I expected starting this story was mostly sexual tension. A lot of it. And some power and dominance between a self made millionaire and a desperate woman that would, without a doubt, include eroticism. And yet this story was so much more than that.
First off, the level of erotica and dominance I expected was not there. This may sound negative, but considering I like my romances on the side of a sexy challenge rather than power play, this was much appreciated. And it was not just this balance between the hero and the heroine, but this story was captivating for its inclusion of a mother/daughter relationship.Read More »

She vowed never to return.

To save her brother from financial ruin, Piper Harland must do the one thing she swore she’d never do—return to the tiny island hometown where Ryan “West” Westlake crushed her heart. Piper is tough, resilient and a little wild—much like the remote and beautiful Stewart Island where she grew up. As a cop who’s part of the elite New Zealand Police National Dive Squad, bringing the dead back to their families still doesn’t stop the guilt she feels over her father’s drowning death. Now nine years later she’s obligated to return to a hostile community as the outsider, and forced to work with the man who was once her best friend and first lover.

She’s a risk he can’t take.

West is an Island man, through and through. As owner of the local pub, he lives and breathes the local community, and sure as hell can’t imagine living anywhere else. But most of all he refuses to ever fall for a woman like his flighty mother. He lost Piper once to give her the chance to fulfil her dreams of becoming a cop. But now she’s back for an unexpected six week visit to help her brother—his best mate. Maybe West wants her a little bit, maybe he can’t resist the temptation to tease and touch her, but can he fall in love with such a flight risk?

Saying goodbye for the second time might just destroy them both.

Didn’t think I’d travel to a New Zealand town without the company of hobbits. So glad to have picked this book up, it made me imagine cool waters in this summer heat.

Piper and Ryan ‘West’ Westlake have been friends since childhood. West is Piper’s brother’s best friend, considered as another son by her family, so they charmed me right from the start. I might’ve mentioned this a few times-or a thousand, but who’s counting?- but friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite romance themes. There’s a different kind of sexiness when it comes to two people who already know the best and the worst of each other. Read More »

Late-night shock jock Sophie Morelle has been fired, dumped by her network after an embarrassing incident cost them big bucks. But she knows just how to get back on her feet—by filming a raw, gritty documentary about MMA fighters, starring the hottest welterweight around. The only problem? He’s the one responsible for ruining her life.

MMA-champion-turned-model Caden Kelly is hell-bent on reestablishing himself as the best fighter in the country. He’d been on a roll, too, until that loudmouth reporter hit him in the head with a camera on national TV. The headaches he’s suffered since are nothing compared to the one he gets when she shows up, seeking an exclusive. That Sophie’s gorgeous is undeniable…but she’s also the most infuriating woman he’s ever met.

Stepping into the ring with Caden Kelly is not for the faint of heart, but Sophie’s never been the delicate type. This champion may have finally met his match—both in and out of the bedroom.

One of these days, I’m definitely going to watch some MMA matches. Not only are they real, but sounds like they’re done within a set of rules that keep the fighters safe. Plus, the men. Now, I’m not all too shallow, but a gal can always appreciate her men. And delving more into the world of MMA, and getting to know more of the fighters in this book, I sure did appreciate these men.

I have to admit, Caden surprised me. While expecting a flirtatious, shameless fighter, I met a very down-to-earth man who was much more sensible than I initially gave him credit for. He was a man with a history, and that, exactly, is the key to connect with a character. Although we’re never given any detail more than necessary, we get a few glimpses into his past through his point of view, and it was just the kind of history I could feel and relate to. Not a whole window open, but breadcrumbs spread here and there for me to understand him. Read More »
