Just when I thought I came to the end of yet another good series that I liked so much, I find that it’s far from ending. Am I happy, excited, surprised? How about all of the above? In the third book of Boone Brux’s Bringer and The Bane, we pick up where we left off in the previous book and this time see Rell, the Bane sister of Jade, find her way to her happy ending with the quiet member of the Bringers, Siban.

For many reasons, this was a more emotional book than its predecessors. We met Rell as a Bane which means her soul was surrounded by darkness, and yet we know she’s kept her sister protected in the Shadow World. She had a dark, violent side which was the result of her turning Bane, and with the help of her sister she kept it at bay. If that’s not a big heavy emotional baggage to carry around, I don’t know what is. But ever since she first appeared, we also knew she had a side that she tried hard to keep from the darkness, the side that protected her sister, and helped free Siban from the Bane prison. It’s not easy to judge the characters in these books, because though they make choices that are clearly mistakes, they try to make amends for their wrongful doings. Besides, who wants perfect anyway?
Rell’s life as a demon, the secret she kept from her sister over the years, help shape the woman she becomes in the book. Right before our eyes she turns from the innocent girl who was taken from her family, to the strong woman who fights for what she cares and believes. I liked that her transformation was slow, it didn’t happen in a day, it didn’t happen suddenly with a flash of light, but gradually, one step at a time. She felt shame and guilt over her life as a Bane, but with the help of her sister, Siban and all the other people, she was able to overcome this and embrace her future. She was definitely a favorite character.

What do they say about the quiet ones? Oh yes, they’re the worst, but I mean it in the sweetest way. Siban has been a man of few words so far, so we didn’t know much about him, but with Rell’s arrival, the man transformed! He’s still no Luc, of course, but still, the man apparently has a tongue. Yes, he does.
He was held as a prisoner in the Shadow World, so his soul is stained with darkness also, and ever since Rell helped him escape he couldn’t stop thinking about her. Talk about star crossed lovers. I loved the fact that when he first met and fell in love with Rell, she was still a demon and that changed nothing for him. As a man who lived the worst at the hands of the demons, him loving Rell with such fierceness and devotion is enough to describe the wonderful man he is. He helps, he protects, he cares and when he makes a mistake, he knows to apologize. What more can a gal ask for?

I believe this was not the last book of the series, not only because we left at such a point that my feet are dangling off the cliff and I feel the cold breeze all the way to my bones, but also because there are other characters whose mysteries are yet to be revealed, and potential couples I’m hoping will get their own stories. Remember the demon Icarus that was there as a pain in the Bringers’ asses ever since the first book? The one I wouldn’t be lying if I said I was dying to know the real deal of? Well, I got some of my answers, but there are still more questions. But first and foremost, we have a war waiting right around the corner and with this series easily becoming one of my favorites, I don’t know how I will fare against the test of time that will take to get the rest of this story.

Now I invite all of you to take a moment of silence to appreciate the gorgeousness of this cover while I add five spoonfuls of it into my hodgepodge.
