Impossible is nothing.” John Maxwell said it, and this book is like a testament to that statement with its hero and heroine’s journey into what most characters in it would call ‘impossible’. Please keep in mind that this review WILL CONTAIN spoilers  because I’ll be talking about the hero and if there’s anyone out there who’s lucky enough to start this series anew, I wouldn’t want anything to spoil their excitement.

It’s always a wonder when the coldest, toughest guy gets a book and falls in love, it’s hard to find that balance between who he’s been so far and who he becomes with his woman that it can distance the reader from the story, but in this case Nalini has done a great job of maintaining that balance. Not once have I doubted it was the dual cardinal Councilor Kaleb Krychek I was reading about, his every move, his every word and gesture was his own. It was, like I said, a wonder though. So far, we’ve never been this deep into his head and ever since the start, Kaleb was a mystery to us readers, his motives and past unknown. Sure, he was the ruthless Councilor but we had no idea where he came from or how much of his time with that monster Enrique Santano really shaped his personality. And we get all those answers and more. And with all those heart wrenching memories and the horrible past, when he finally finds what he’s looking for, he still remains dual cardinal Councilor Kaleb Krychek. He loves like all the other Psy whose stories we read, subtle and dangerous but just as much real. I think it’d be safe to say there are no words to describe how much I loved Kaleb’s character, he’s one of those silent types that have their own level of sexiness that no leopard or wolf can compare. And I’m looking forward to reading more about the silent type, god knows Nalini has no shortage of those.

The heroine, Sahara-what a great name by the way- was a complete mystery though. Not like Kaleb mystery, she was very much unknown until she appeared in Kaleb’s house. In the entirety of the book, however, we were given everything possible to get to know her. I liked her. Simply because I think there was no way not to like her. She was strong, as strong as she should’ve been to love someone like Kaleb, and oh how much I loved the fact that they knew each other since they were children.. That bit about their relationship was what made their bond all the more believable in my opinion. Maybe if they’d met after Kaleb was the Councilor we knew, the feelings he had for her wouldn’t be this convincing. But the fact that they met before he became this feared powerful being, when he was only a child in the hands of that monster, makes all the difference. What a good choice for a past for these two.

The excitement I had for the book wasn’t just for the couple though, the storyline takes such a turn that it makes my heart beat faster and I don’t know how I can possibly wait for the next one. The wall of Silence finally comes crumbling down, and it makes me think of how some people will cope with it, how lives will change especially for some of the characters we’ve met recently.

A book I’ve enjoyed immensely, it’s a turning point for the world of Psy-Changeling-Human. And for that reason I’m adding five huge spoonfuls of this story into my hodgepodge and perhaps a tiny bit more for good measure, it’s all for the sake of deliciousness!
